About

GearHound is a product review site, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. We earn affiliate commissions when you buy through our links. We think that’s fine — but we also think you deserve to know exactly how that works and how to tell whether our recommendations (or anyone’s) are trustworthy.

What makes us different: we actually test the products we recommend. Not all of them — we are not Consumer Reports. But when we review something, we have used it. We measure things, we time things, we break things (accidentally), and we tell you what happened.

We also write about consumer literacy: how to spot fake reviews, when cheap is actually better, and how to make buying decisions that don’t leave you with buyer’s remorse. Because a good deal isn’t just about the lowest price — it’s about getting something that actually works for what you need.

If we think something is not worth buying, we say so. If the 0 version outperforms the 0 version, we recommend the 0 version. Our commission rate doesn’t change our recommendation.
